Escherichia coli: placing resistance to third-generation cephalosporins and fluoroquinolones in Australia and New Zealand into perspective

چکیده
At least 300 million urinary tract infections (UTIs) occur annually worldwide. Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are the leading cause of UTIs. The discovery antibiotics has revolutionised modern medicine. Yet, overusing accelerated emergence antimicrobial resistance (AMR), with UPEC driving dissemination AMR globally. Resistance to broad-spectrum like third-generation cephalosporins (3GCs) and fluoroquinolones threatens public health. Extended-spectrum ?-lactamase (ESBL)-producing E. precipitate resistance, particularly when these used as empirical therapies against UPEC. In response, Centers for Disease Control Prevention in United States have listed ESBL-producing Enterobacterales, such a severe threat. Additionally, World Health Organization classified 3GCs highest priority (critically important antimicrobials), where only recommended following susceptibility testing. present report demonstrates distributions cases 3GC Australia New Zealand contextualises trends European reports. This investigation emphasises value epidemiology justification evidence-based interventions using data an essential resource reducing our ‘first-line’ antibiotics.

Evaluation of Antibiotic Resistance to Fluoroquinolones and Third Generation Cephalosporines in Iranian Clinical Isolates of Salmonella spp.
Salmonella enterica serotypes are one of the most important food borne pathogens and significant public health concerns around the world in humans and other animal species. A total of eighty three epidemiologically unrelated clinical isolates of Salmonella enterica serovars were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Eleven isolates (13.1%) which were resistant to at least 4 groups ...
متن کاملNational prevalence of resistance to third-generation cephalosporins in Escherichia coli isolates from layer flocks in France.
Resistance of Escherichia coli to third-generation cephalosporin (3GC) in fecal samples representative of French egg production was studied. The susceptibility to cefotaxime of E. coli isolates obtained by culture on nonselective media was determined. Twenty-two nonsusceptible isolates were obtained (7.51%; 95% confidence interval, 4.49 to 10.54%), the majority of which came from young birds. M...
متن کاملantibiotic resistance to third generation cephalosporins due to ctx-m-type extended-spectrum β-lactamases in clinical isolates of escherichia coli
background: organisms producing ctx-m-β-lactamase are emerging around the world as a source of resistance to oxyiminocephalosporins such as cefotaxime. however, the laboratory detection of these strains is not well defined. the aim of this study was to determine the presence and prevalence of known ctx-m-β-lactamases genes in clinical isolates of escherichia coli from hospitals of tehran. meth...

Resistance to Third-Generation Cephalosporins and Other Antibiotics by Enterobacteriaceae in Western Nigeria
Problem statement: The emergence and spread of resistance to third-generation cephalosporins are threatening to create species resistant to all currently available agents. The most common cause of bacterial resistance to beta-lactam antibiotics is the production of beta-lactamases and many of the 2nd and 3rd-generation penicillins and cephalosporins were specifically designed to resist the hydr...
